Driving under the influence is a major problem in the United States. Although it appears that the media has tried desperately to publicize this problem and warn drivers to avoid drinking and driving, thousands of people are killed each year by other drivers making this foolish mistake. Unfortunately, this could be the wretched cause of a car accident that killed a woman in Nebraska recently.
The accident occurred on Dec. 8 when a man who was 45 years old crossed over the center line of the road and collided head-on with another car. This incident killed the 62-year-old driver of the car that was struck, and she was pronounced deceased when emergency personnel arrived. Her 62-year-old passenger was taken to the hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
The man who crossed the center line was arrested by Nebraska police. It is believed that he was intoxicated at the time of the accident, and he is also accused of failing to appear in court for a similar offense in Florida. The current condition of the 62-year-old passenger is unknown.
Even if the man is not found guilty in his trial later, the family of the deceased Nebraska woman may have the right to seek monetary compensation for the loss of her life from the car accident. The injured passenger may also have the right to file a personal injury claim against the man. Successfully litigated claims could be used to pay for any medical and final expenses as well as provide some sense of justice to the families involved.
