Owning a motorcycle is often the fantasy of most American teenage boys. Their low gas consumption and the fun that goes with riding one make a motorcycle even more enticing. However, motorcycles are not known for their safety, and all too many young lives have been claimed by an accident that involves one of these machines. These accidents are not always caused by the actions of the motorcyclists, but instead the negligence of other drivers. Unfortunately, a young Nebraska man was killed recently in a fatal accident.

A man driving a pickup truck struck a motorcyclist on Aug. 30. The accident occurred at around 10:45 p.m. after the man in the truck ran a stop sign. The accident killed the rider of the motorcycle, a 23-year-old man, and seriously injured his passenger.

Immediately after the accident occurred a female bystander that was nearby started performing CPR on the rider until emergency personnel arrived. The driver of the pickup left the scene of the accident, but was caught later and charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident and failure to stop at a stop sign. Police said that the accident is still under investigation.

Once local police finish their investigation of the fatal accident the passenger that was injured or the family of the deceased rider may have the right to seek monetary compensation. If the Nebraska courts reward either of them compensation it could be used to pay the medical bills of the passenger or any final expenses of the rider that was killed. This would allow the family to focus on coping with their loss and allow the passenger to heal stress free.
