Taxotere is a chemotherapy drug manufactured by Sanofi-Aventis that is used to treat numerous cancers, including breast, lung, stomach, head/neck, and prostate cancer. It has been linked to permanent hair loss in patients. While temporary hair loss is a common side effect of chemotherapy, permanent hair loss that may continue for years after chemotherapy is not. Sanofi updated warning labels in Canada (2005) and Europe (2012) to warn for this possible side effect but did not update U.S. labels until December 2015.
