Drive Safe and Smart This Holiday Season

Depositphotos_27469493_l-2015.jpgNearly a third of all traffic-related deaths involve the use of alcohol. Even one or two drinks at a work party or a family holiday event can impact your driving and cause extreme injury to you and others. In 2016, there were 2,017 people killed in alcohol-related crashes where drivers had lower blood alcohol levels (BACs of .01 to .07 g/dL). Even with these lower alcohol levels, you can expect to experience difficulty multi-tasking, visual impairment, and reduced coordination. All of these potential symptoms make it harder to react in an emergency situation on the road.

Make Plans Ahead of Time
To avoid drinking and driving, it always crucial to have a plan in place before any social outing involving alcohol. Here are just a few tips to plan a safer and smarter holiday season:

  • If you're going out with a group of friends, pick a designated, non-drinking driver before anyone begins drinking.
  • While hosting a party where alcohol is present, ensure guests have non-alcohol beverages available as well and remind all guests about having a safe ride home.
  • Call an Uber/Lyft, taxi or friend to drive you home if you are too intoxicated to drive.
  • This holiday season, use the Friedman Law Offices, P.C., L.L.O. Holiday Taxi Program

At Friedman Law Offices, P.C., L.L.O., we have had considerable experience representing victims of drunk drivers. The problem of drunk driving has prompted our firm to support the Friedman Law Offices, P.C., L.L.O. Holiday Taxi Program each holiday season.

We started doing this public service in 1990 as a direct response to the increase in numbers of drunk drivers on the road and the harm they were causing to innocent victims. We have continually sponsored the program since that time. We feel that it is our responsibility to contribute this in the community that we serve.

We strongly urge you not to drink if you drive. If you do not have a designated driver and are too intoxicated to drive, call 402-474-SAFE and Friedman Law Offices, P.C., L.L.O. will pay for your ride home. The program runs each year from Dec. 15 through Dec. 31, 9pm-2am. This offer is only for licensed drivers within the city limits of Lincoln, Nebraska, and the destination must be to a Lincoln residence.

We hope you have a happy and safe holiday season. For additional information, visit the Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicle website.
