When a worker has been injured on the job in Nebraska, this can pose a financial hardship on the worker and his or her family. One worker in another state recently suffered an on-the-job injury after working with a machine that did not have safety devices. This incident led to his employer being fined by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

Authorities said the man, 32, was removing rust from one part of a machine run by a computer. The hand of the machinist, who was using sandpaper to do the job, ended up getting caught in the machine. The man’s hand was then pulled into the machine’s rotating parts and caused him to suffer broken bones.

He had to undergo multiple surgeries as well as rehabilitation. OSHA investigated the matter and discovered that the man’s employer had neglected to follow basic rules for machine safety at the plant. The company also received a citation for not creating a yearly illness and injury summary for all of its locations. The company has been fined $71,000.
