Although bicyclists are as vulnerable as regular pedestrians when they are on the road, unlike pedestrians, bicyclists often drive on the road with other vehicles that are much bigger than them. Unfortunately, this means that they are more prone to being involved in an accident if another driver is operating his or her vehicle in a negligent manner. This, combined with the lack of protection that bicyclists have, can create devastating accidents that can injure a victim or result in a wrongful death. One fatal accident in Nebraska tragically took the life of one bicyclist recently.

The accident took place on March 13 at around 12:30 p.m. when the driver of a motor vehicle struck the man. The driver supposedly crossed over the median of the road into the opposing lane and hit the bicyclist. The victim was transported to the hospital by helicopter where he passed away soon after arrival.

The driver of the vehicle was an 82-year-old woman. The driver did not suffer any injuries from the accident. The accident is still under investigation, and it is unknown if charges will be filed against the woman.

Regardless of whether charges are filed against the driver for her involvement in the fatal accident, the family of the Nebraska victim may have the right to seek monetary compensation for this wrongful death. Compensation could be used to pay for any of the final expenses of the deceased man. This could help ease the burden that may have been left to the family and allow them to focus on coping with their situation.
