Accidents happen every day across the United States and can involve anyone. It does not matter if the person is famous or an important official; their life can be taken just as easily as any other person. However, it does not matter what the person’s position in life was, the family will still feel the grief of losing a loved one. Unfortunately, a fatal accident in Nebraska recently killed a woman who was once a Nebraska senator and could result in a wrongful death claim.
The woman who was killed in the accident was a former state politician. She was struck by a car on Jan. 3 while walking through the parking lot of a local grocery store. An elderly woman was backing out of her parking space when she lost control of her vehicle and hit the woman.
Emergency personnel arrived at the scene soon after the accident took place, but the woman was pronounced dead on the scene. The woman served as a politician for Nebraska for 14 years, from 1989 to 2003. It is not known if charges will be filed against the elderly driver.
Independent of whether charges are filed against the woman for her involvement in the fatal accident, the family of the deceased Nebraska woman may have the right to seek monetary compensation for the loss of her life. Compensation could help pay for any of the woman’s final expenses as well as provide the family with some sense of justice. No amount of money will ever completely heal the emotional wounds that losing a loved one can leave, but a successfully litigated wrongful death claim could help a family handle final expenses related to the incident.
