Nebraska man pleads guilty to charges from fatal accident

Car accidents that injure or kill a child can be tragic enough, but if the accident is caused by a reason that could have been easily prevented, the incident can be even more disheartening. Negligence is never a reasonable excuse for an accident, especially if the driver is driving in an outright reckless manner. One man in Nebraska recently pleaded guilty for his involvement in a fatal accident that killed a small child.

The initial accident occurred in June of 2012, but the man was just recently charged with second degree reckless murder. The accident took place after the defendant was traveling almost 70 mph in a 35 mph zone and collided with the other vehicle that was driving through an intersection. This caused the fatality of the little girl, who was 6 years old and was pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident.

The man told police that he was had just washed his car and was attempting to dry his car by driving at a high speed. He pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter. The Nebraska man is supposed to be sentenced in October for his crime.

Even though the defendant was charged criminally in this case, the family of the deceased victim may also choose to seek monetary compensation in civil court for the tragic loss of life from this fatal accident. This type of compensation could be used to pay for any of the final expenses of the little girl. This sometimes allows the family to focus on coming to terms with the tragic loss.
