Girl dies in roll over car accident on Nebraska highway

Single vehicle accidents are an all-too-common occurrence on roads all across America. Many of these accidents are merely the result of driver error, which combined with the speed that the vehicle is traveling, can result in deadly consequences. In a recent car accident on Interstate 80 in Nebraska, a girl has died when the SUV she was riding in flipped.

Police have reported that the accident occurred around 2:40 p.m. Two girls were riding in the SUV, a 15-year-old passenger and a 16-year-old driver. Police have indicated that the driver swerved to avoid hitting a dead turkey that was in the road. She apparently lost control of the vehicle when she tried to correct her sudden change in direction.

The SUV traveled onto the median and rolled over twice. The passenger was ejected from the car and was pronounced dead at the scene by rescue officials. The driver was transported to an area hospital where she was treated for injuries that were not considered to be life threatening. The girl was later released.

Nebraska police investigators have not stated whether there were additional factors that they believe contributed to this car accident. It is unclear what speed the SUV was traveling or whether any other motorist witnessed the accident. This information may be useful if the family of the deceased girl wishes to pursue a civil lawsuit for wrongful death, as it could support a liability claim against the driver as well as any separate owner of the vehicle she was operating.
