Antibiotics classed as Fluoroquinolones:
Fluoroquinolones are the most widely used class of antibiotics in the US, ~ 26 million prescriptions per year. They are used to treat a variety of infections including bronchitis, sinusitis, urinary tract infections, skin infections, and pneumonia. In August 2013 the FDA issued a warning about the risk of permanent nerve damage, or peripheral neuropathy, posed by fluoroquinolone drugs. Nerves in the hands and feet tend to be the first affected by numbness and tingling. Peripheral neuropathy can arise at any time while taking a fluoroquinolone including immediately after you start taking it and can persist for months or years after use and may become permanent.
